Every iPhone that ran iOS 26 also gets iOS 27, so the iOS 27 supported iPhones list still starts at the iPhone 11 series and the iPhone SE (2nd generation). Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September 2026, and no iPhone was dropped this year. The catch is features: the headline Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features only work on an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or a newer model. So an iPhone 11, 12, 13 or 14 gets the update but not the features that made it news.
If you have an older iPhone, that leaves you with three options: keep it and enjoy one more year of updates, upgrade to a model that runs the new AI features, or sell it while it is still on the latest iOS and buyers are willing to pay for it. This guide goes through each model family so you can decide with real numbers, not guesswork.
Already know you want to move on? You can sell your old iPhone on ReUz in a few minutes: get an instant quote online, book a free doorstep pickup and get paid on UPI before the agent leaves. ReUz also promises up to 10% more than other buyers. You can read how that works on the ReUz price promise page.
iOS 27 supported iPhones: the complete list
Apple confirmed that iOS 27 supports every iPhone that can run iOS 26. Earlier in 2026 there were leaks claiming the iPhone 11 family would be cut. They turned out to be wrong, and the final compatibility list is the same as last year's. iOS 27 was announced at WWDC on 8 June 2026, went into public beta in July and was released to everyone on 14 September 2026, the same day as iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and watchOS 27. Apple released iOS 27.2 on 26 October 2026, so if you have not updated in a while, check Settings > General > Software Update.
The table below lists every supported model and shows the split that matters most in 2026: does your iPhone just install iOS 27, or does it also get Siri AI and Apple Intelligence?
| iPhone family | Gets iOS 27? | Siri AI and Apple Intelligence? | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo | Yes | Yes | Current flagships; full iOS 27 experience |
| iPhone 17, Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17e | Yes | Yes | Full iOS 27 experience |
| iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 16e | Yes | Yes | Full iOS 27 experience |
| iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max | Yes | Yes | Oldest models with the AI features |
| iPhone 15, 15 Plus | Yes | No | Updates, but no Siri AI |
| iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max | Yes | No | Updates, but no Siri AI |
| iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max | Yes | No | Updates, but no Siri AI |
| iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max | Yes | No | Updates, but no Siri AI |
| iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max | Yes | No | Oldest supported family; future updates uncertain |
| iPhone SE (2nd generation) and SE (3rd generation) | Yes | No | Updates, but no Siri AI |
Any iPhone older than the iPhone 11 family, such as the iPhone XR, XS and X, stopped getting new iOS versions earlier and is not on the iOS 27 list.
What "supported" means on an older iPhone
"Supported" sounds like you get everything. You don't. For iOS 27, Apple says the update brings more than 250 new features and changes on top of the headline Siri AI. Most of those smaller changes, such as interface tweaks, app updates and security fixes, reach every supported iPhone. The features that need Apple Intelligence do not, and those are the ones Apple put at the centre of this year's launch.
On an iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 15 Plus, you can expect:
- Security patches and bug fixes. This is the most important reason to stay updated, especially if you use UPI apps, net banking or DigiLocker on your phone.
- Most visual and app-level improvements that don't depend on on-device AI.
- Continued App Store support. Being on the latest iOS means new versions of apps like WhatsApp, banking apps and Google Pay keep installing without problems.
What you will not get:
- Siri AI, the new chatbot-style Siri that MacRumors describes as available on "iPhone 15 Pro and newer".
- Apple Intelligence features in general, which still need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or a newer model.
In practice, iOS 27 is a free security-and-polish update for older iPhones and a real feature upgrade only for newer ones. That gap shapes the keep-or-sell decision more than the compatibility list does.
Will my iPhone get slower after updating to iOS 27?
This is the most common worry, and there is no single answer for every phone. A new iOS version is designed for the full range of supported devices, but the oldest models on the list have the least headroom. If your iPhone already feels slow, the battery is usually the bigger factor. iOS can manage performance on a worn battery to prevent unexpected shutdowns. Before blaming the update, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health (on newer models, Battery Health & Charging) and check the maximum capacity. Our guide on how to check iPhone battery health before selling explains how to read the numbers.
A good habit: give the phone a day or two after a major update. Indexing, photo analysis and app updates run in the background straight after installation, and they can make any phone feel warm or sluggish for a short while.
Why no iPhone was dropped this year, and what it means for next year
Apple does not publish an end-of-support date for any iPhone. It simply announces the compatibility list each June and confirms it at release. That means nobody can promise your iPhone 11 will also get iOS 28. What we do know is that the iPhone 11 family is now the oldest group still on the list, and the leaks earlier this year show that its place on the list is no longer taken for granted.
For resale, this matters more than you might think. A used iPhone that runs the newest iOS is easier to sell. Buyers don't have to worry that apps will stop updating soon, and it looks current when they check Settings > General > About. When a model drops off the list, that reassurance disappears overnight. If you are thinking of selling an iPhone 11, 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max at some point, the months while it still runs the latest iOS are a sensible time to do it.
There is also a practical pattern Indian sellers notice every year: when a big new Apple launch lands and lots of people upgrade at once, many used phones of the same generation reach the market together. Selling ahead of that rush usually beats selling in the middle of it. Our guide on the best time to sell a premium phone in India covers this timing in more detail.
Keep, upgrade or sell: model-by-model advice
Which choice is right depends on which iPhone you own, how you use it and how healthy it is. Here is how each family stands after iOS 27.
iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
Your iPhone 11 is the oldest iPhone that installs iOS 27. That is good news for now, and also a reminder that this family is first in line whenever Apple next trims the list. It does not get Siri AI or Apple Intelligence.
Keep it if: the battery health is reasonable, the phone feels fine for WhatsApp, UPI, YouTube and calls, and you have no interest in the new AI features. A fresh battery can extend a phone like this by a good while, as long as the rest of it is in good shape.
Sell it if: you already plan to upgrade within the next year, the battery needs replacing, or you own one of the Pro models and want to get the most value while buyers still see the phone as current. You can sell your iPhone 11 Pro or sell your iPhone 11 Pro Max with a quick online condition check. The quote is instant, so you can see what it is worth before you decide.
Watch out for: a battery health percentage that has fallen far, a "Service" message under Battery Health, or visible screen damage such as burn-in or lines. These cut resale value, so get a quote before deciding whether to spend on repairs.
iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone SE (3rd generation)
Both SE models are on the iOS 27 list. The iPhone SE 2020 (2nd generation) is from the same era as the iPhone 11 family, so the same logic applies: it gets this year's update, but it is near the bottom of the list. The iPhone SE 2022 (3rd generation) is newer and should have more runway, but neither SE gets Apple Intelligence.
SE models are often used as second phones, phones for parents or a child's first iPhone. If that is your plan, keeping it on iOS 27 is perfectly reasonable. If the small display and battery life are already frustrating you, sell it and put the money towards a newer model.
iPhone 12 series
The iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max all get iOS 27 without the AI features. It still looks modern in the hand, which helps resale.
Keep it if: you mostly use basic apps, you are happy with the camera and the battery still gets you through the day.
Sell it if: you are an everyday Siri user who wants the new Siri AI, or the battery has worn down. If you own a 12 mini and are already charging it twice a day, a worn battery in such a compact phone rarely gets better, so selling earlier rather than later is often the smart move.
iPhone 13 series
The iPhone 13 family is one of the most popular used iPhones in India and remains in steady demand. On iOS 27 it gets the update but not Siri AI. For many people it is still a perfectly good daily phone.
Keep it if: it is in good condition, you are not interested in AI features and you would rather put off a big purchase, especially with new iPhone prices up in 2026 (more on that below).
Sell it if: you want Apple Intelligence or Siri AI, or you can see yourself upgrading within the next year anyway. Popular models like the iPhone 13 find buyers easily, but every new generation that arrives adds supply, so earlier tends to be better.
iPhone 14 series
The iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max all get iOS 27, but none of them gets Apple Intelligence. Many iPhone 14 Pro owners find this frustrating, since the phone is otherwise still capable. If you bought an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max mainly for camera and display quality, it remains a strong phone and there's no rush.
The honest trade-off: a 14-series phone is in the sweet spot for resale. It is recent enough that buyers pay well, but old enough that you lose the new software features. If AI features matter to you, selling a 14 Pro and adding money for an AI-capable iPhone is the most cost-effective way to upgrade.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus versus iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
This is where the AI line falls, and it catches many people out. The standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus get iOS 27 but not Siri AI or Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max do get them, and they are the oldest iPhones that can.
If you own a 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, iOS 27 is a real upgrade for you, and you have little reason to switch phones this year unless the battery or hardware is letting you down. If you own a standard iPhone 15 or 15 Plus and the new Siri is what you wanted, you will have to upgrade to get it. The 15 is new enough to hold its value well, so it makes a strong trade-in.
iPhone 16, iPhone 17 and newer
If you have an iPhone 16 or any newer model, you already get the full iOS 27 experience. The decision here is about hardware, not software. Our comparison of iPhone 16 vs iPhone 17 in India goes into whether moving up a generation is worth it.
Not sure what your model is worth? Use ReUz phone search to find your exact iPhone, answer a few condition questions and see your instant quote. You can also check the used phone resale value page for a broader view of how different models hold up. There's no obligation: getting a quote doesn't commit you to selling.
What it costs to upgrade to an AI-capable iPhone in India right now
If you decide you want Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, you need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Buying new became more expensive in 2026. When the iPhone 18 Pro models launched in September, Apple did not cut the prices of older models as people usually expect. Instead, prices of the iPhone 17, 17e, Air and 16 went up in India. Here are the reported India prices after that change, with the earlier price in brackets:
- iPhone 17e: from ₹79,900 (was ₹64,900), up ₹15,000.
- iPhone 16: from ₹89,900 (launch price ₹79,900).
- iPhone 17 256GB: ₹99,900 (was ₹82,900), up ₹17,000. The 512GB model is ₹1,24,900 (was ₹1,02,900).
- iPhone Air 256GB: ₹1,49,900 (was ₹1,19,900), up ₹30,000.
- iPhone 18 Pro: from ₹1,64,900. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at ₹1,79,900. Both went on sale in India on 18 September 2026 in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB options.
Online and offline sellers often run bank offers, cashback and exchange deals, so the price you actually pay can be lower than these list prices. Always compare the final amount after every offer, not the headline discount.
Because new iPhones cost more, the money you get for your old one now covers a bigger share of the upgrade. That is the main argument for selling instead of letting an unused phone sit in a drawer. A phone in a drawer loses value every month. A phone you sell today pays off part of your next one.
New versus used: a sensible middle path
You don't need a brand-new phone to get Apple Intelligence. An iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max or any 16-series model meets the requirement. If the jump to a new 17 or 18 Pro feels too steep, a quality-checked used model is a reasonable alternative. You can browse used iPhones on ReUz to compare options. When buying used, check the battery health, make sure Find My is off and the phone is not iCloud-locked, and confirm that the model really is a Pro if the AI features are why you're buying.
Scenario-based advice: what would we do in your place?
Compatibility lists are abstract. Here is how the decision plays out for typical Indian iPhone owners.
"I'm a college student with an iPhone 11 and a tight budget"
Keep it for now. iOS 27 means your apps and security updates keep coming. Check the battery health. If it has dropped a lot, an authorised battery replacement can be the cheapest way to get through another year. Start setting aside money for an upgrade, and plan to sell the phone before it falls off the compatibility list, so you don't end up with a phone that has lost value and no longer updates.
"I'm a working professional with an iPhone 13 and I use Siri all the time"
This is the case where upgrading makes the most sense. You won't get Siri AI on your current phone no matter how long you wait. Sell the iPhone 13 while it is still on the latest iOS and in demand, and put the money towards an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, new or used, depending on your budget.
"I have an iPhone 14 Pro and I'm happy with it"
There's no urgency. The update keeps your phone secure, and the camera and display are still excellent. Reconsider if the battery drops significantly or if you find yourself envying the new Siri on a colleague's phone. When you do move on, a 14 Pro in good condition is one of the more valuable trade-ins you can bring.
"I bought an iPhone 15 in 2024 and only just realised it doesn't get Apple Intelligence"
You are far from alone. Many buyers assumed every 15 model would get the AI features. If they matter to you, selling the standard 15 and moving to a 15 Pro, 16 or 17 gets you there. Because the 15 is relatively recent, it is likely to be worth a good amount. Get an instant quote first so you know exactly how much the upgrade will really cost.
"I want to give my old iPhone to my parents"
Handing down a phone on iOS 27 is a good idea. It is supported and secure. Before you do, replace a weak battery, reset the phone completely, and set it up with your parents' own Apple Account, not yours. If you are upgrading anyway and your parents are already happy with a different phone, selling may help your family more than a hand-me-down.
Before you update or sell: a step-by-step checklist
Whether you keep your iPhone or sell it, these steps protect your data and your money.
If you're keeping it and updating to iOS 27
- Back up first. Use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer. A major update rarely goes wrong, but a backup takes the risk out of it.
- Free up storage. Major updates need space to download and install. Clear old videos and unused apps if storage is tight.
- Charge and connect to Wi-Fi. Keep the phone plugged in and on a stable connection while the update installs.
- Update your apps afterwards. Open the App Store and install pending updates, especially for UPI, banking and messaging apps.
- Give it a couple of days. Background indexing after a big update can temporarily affect battery life and warmth.
- Check battery health. If the phone still feels slow after a few days, the battery is the most likely cause, not the update.
If you're selling it
- Update to iOS 27 first. A phone on the latest iOS looks current to buyers and is easier to check.
- Back up everything to iCloud or a computer, including WhatsApp chats (WhatsApp has its own backup under Settings > Chats).
- Turn off Find My under Settings > [your name] > Find My. A phone with Find My or Activation Lock still on cannot be resold, and buyers will either reject it or ask you to fix it.
- Sign out of your Apple Account on the phone.
- Unpair your Apple Watch and AirPods if they are linked.
- Remove or transfer your eSIM and take out the physical SIM card.
- Remove UPI and banking apps, or at least deregister them, before the reset.
- Erase the phone from Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings. With ReUz, the agent can also wipe the data with you watching.
- Keep the bill and box handy if you have them. They don't change the core quote much, but they make the handover smoother and prove ownership.
Exchange offer, OLX or a buyback service: which gets you the most?
Once you decide to sell, you have three main routes in India.
Exchange offers at stores and on e-commerce sites are convenient because the value comes straight off your new phone's price. The downside is that you only see the final exchange value after a doorstep inspection on delivery day. If it comes in lower than you expected, you have very little room to negotiate. Exchange values are also tied to buying from that seller.
Selling privately on OLX or similar platforms can sometimes fetch a good price, but it takes time. You deal with bargaining, strangers visiting your home or meeting in public places, no-shows and payment scams. For a phone worth tens of thousands of rupees, that risk is real.
A buyback service like ReUz sits in between. You get a firm instant quote online based on the condition you report, a free doorstep pickup at a time that suits you, and payment on UPI on the spot after a quick check. You're not tied to buying any particular new phone, so you're free to pick up the best deal on your upgrade anywhere. ReUz offers pickup in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad.
Thinking of selling your iPhone?
If iOS 27 has convinced you it is time to move on, from an iPhone 11 that is nearing the end of its update list or a 14 Pro that will never get Siri AI, here is how selling with ReUz works:
- Instant quote in 60 seconds. Find your model, answer a few condition questions and see your price straight away.
- Free doorstep pickup. Pick a time slot and an agent comes to your home or office.
- On-the-spot UPI payment. You're paid instantly after a quick check, before the agent leaves.
- Data wiped in front of you. Your photos, chats and accounts are erased while you watch.
- Up to 10% more than other buyers, backed by the ReUz price promise.
Start with your exact model, for example sell your iPhone 13, or search for your phone and get an instant quote. It takes about a minute, and you are under no obligation to sell.
Frequently asked questions
Which iPhones support iOS 27?
iOS 27 supports every iPhone that runs iOS 26: the iPhone 11 series and newer, including the iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 Pro families, the iPhone Air, the 16e and 17e, the iPhone Duo, and the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. No iPhone was dropped this year.
Does my iPhone 11 get iOS 27?
Yes. The iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max all get iOS 27, despite leaks earlier in 2026 suggesting otherwise. They don't get Siri AI or Apple Intelligence, and as the oldest family on the list they are the most likely to be left out of a future update.
Which iPhones get Siri AI and Apple Intelligence on iOS 27?
Only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer models. The standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, and all older iPhones, install iOS 27 but don't get these features.
Should I sell my old iPhone before the next iOS update drops it?
If you already plan to upgrade within a year, yes. A phone running the latest iOS is easier to sell than one that has stopped getting updates. Apple doesn't announce end-of-support dates in advance, so selling while your iPhone is still on the current list removes that risk. Check your instant quote first so you know what it is worth today.
Will updating to iOS 27 reduce my iPhone's resale value?
No. Being on the latest iOS generally helps, because buyers can be sure the phone is current and supported. What affects value is condition: battery health, screen and body damage, and whether every function works. Note that once you update, you normally cannot go back to the earlier iOS version.
