If you own a Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7, upgrading to the 2026 foldables makes sense for most people only if battery life, charging speed or camera quality is bothering you every day. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the true successor to the Fold 7 and brings a bigger battery, 45W charging and a much better ultra-wide camera at ₹1,99,999. The Z Flip 8 is a smaller step over the Flip 7, so most Flip 7 owners can wait. If you do upgrade, selling your old foldable directly usually gets you more than a typical exchange offer, so compare both before you order.

The 2026 Samsung foldable line-up in India at a glance
Samsung revealed its 2026 foldables at Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July 2026, and for the first time the line-up has three models instead of two. This matters for Fold 7 owners in particular, because the name you would expect to upgrade to is no longer a like-for-like successor.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: an 8-inch inner screen, a 6.5-inch cover screen, a 200MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging. It keeps the Fold 7's size and shape and is the direct follow-up to it.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8: a new, wider "passport-style" foldable with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch cover screen, a 4,800mAh dual battery, 45W wired charging and two 50MP rear cameras.
- Galaxy Z Flip 8: the clamshell, with a 6.9-inch main screen, a 4.1-inch cover screen, the Exynos 2600 chipset and a 4,300mAh battery.
Pre-orders shipped from 4 August 2026, and open sales started on 7 August 2026 on Samsung.com, Amazon, Flipkart and offline stores. Here are the official India prices announced at launch.
| Model | 12GB + 256GB | 12GB + 512GB | 16GB + 1TB |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra | ₹1,99,999 | ₹2,19,999 | ₹2,59,999 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | ₹1,79,999 | ₹1,99,999 | ₹2,39,999 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 8 | ₹1,24,999 | ₹1,44,999 | Not offered |
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 (2025 launch price) | ₹1,74,999 | ₹1,86,999 | ₹2,10,999 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 7 (2025 launch price) | ₹1,09,999 | ₹1,21,999 | Not offered |
Two things stand out in that table. First, the Fold 8 Ultra costs ₹25,000 more than the Fold 7 did at launch for the same 12GB + 256GB configuration. Second, the Flip 8 starts ₹15,000 higher than the Flip 7 did. Launch pre-order offers included a ₹9,000 instant bank discount on the Fold 8 Ultra and Fold 8, a ₹4,000 bank discount on the Flip 8 and up to nine months of no-cost EMI, but those were time-limited. Always check the current price and card offers on the day you buy, because festive sale prices in India can change from week to week.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Fold 8 Ultra: what actually changes
If you have a Fold 7, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the phone to compare against, because it has the same body. According to SamMobile's side-by-side comparison, both phones measure 8.9mm folded and 4.1mm unfolded, both weigh 215g, both have an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display with 1–120Hz refresh, and both are rated for at least 5,00,000 folds. Both are also promised seven generations of Android updates and seven years of security patches. In other words, you are not upgrading for a thinner or lighter phone. You are upgrading for what is inside it.

Battery and charging: the biggest everyday upgrade
The Fold 7's 4,400mAh battery was the most common complaint from owners who use the big inner screen heavily. The Fold 8 Ultra moves to 5,000mAh, which is roughly 14 percent more capacity in the same body, and charging jumps from 25W to 45W wired and from 15W to 20W wireless. If you regularly reach for a power bank by evening, or you charge in short bursts between meetings, this is the change you will feel every single day. If your Fold 7 comfortably lasts your day, the case for upgrading weakens a lot.
Cameras: a real ultra-wide upgrade, but the same zoom
The main 200MP camera carries over, but the ultra-wide goes from a 12MP fixed-focus sensor to a 50MP autofocus sensor that can shoot 8K video. That helps with group photos, interiors, landscapes and close-up shots where the old fixed-focus lens struggled. The 10MP telephoto is unchanged, though. SamMobile's verdict suggests that buyers who want the best possible zoom camera may want to wait for a possible telephoto upgrade on a future Fold 9 Ultra. If zoom photography is your main reason to upgrade, the Fold 8 Ultra will not transform it.
Display and performance
The inner screen is the same 8 inches but with about 31 percent more pixels, 3,000 nits peak brightness, an anti-reflective coating that Samsung says cuts glare by up to 50 percent and a less visible crease thanks to the new Flex Titanium hinge structure. For anyone who reads, watches or edits on the inner screen outdoors in Indian summer daylight, the brighter, less reflective panel is a practical improvement. On performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is newer and faster, but the Fold 7's Snapdragon 8 Elite is still a flagship chip that handles every app and game comfortably in 2026. Performance alone is not a reason to spend ₹2 lakh.
What about the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8?
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is not a cheaper Fold 7. It is a different shape. Its inner screen is smaller at 7.6 inches and its cover screen is 5.5 inches, with a wider, passport-like footprint designed so that the cover screen feels less cramped and the inner screen is more like a landscape tablet. It has a 4,800mAh dual battery, 45W wired and 20W wireless charging, the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and two 50MP rear cameras (main and ultra-wide), but no telephoto camera.
For a Fold 7 owner, that makes the Fold 8 a sideways move rather than an upgrade. You gain battery and charging speed, but you lose the 200MP main camera, the telephoto lens and 0.4 inches of inner screen. It is a good fit if you found the Fold 7's tall, narrow cover screen awkward to type on, or if you mostly use your foldable for reading and messaging rather than photography. If you liked the Fold 7's camera and its 8-inch screen, look at the Fold 8 Ultra instead.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Flip 8: is it worth it?
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is a refinement rather than a redesign. It keeps the Flip 7's 6.9-inch main display, 4.1-inch cover screen, 4,300mAh battery and 25W wired charging. The cameras are a 50MP main and 12MP ultra-wide, the same pairing the Flip 7 used. The main changes are the move from the Exynos 2500 to the Exynos 2600, Android 17 out of the box, a slimmer and lighter build and updated colours.
| Feature | Galaxy Z Flip 7 | Galaxy Z Flip 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Chipset | Exynos 2500 | Exynos 2600 |
| Main / cover display | 6.9-inch / 4.1-inch | 6.9-inch / 4.1-inch |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main + 12MP ultra-wide | 50MP main + 12MP ultra-wide |
| Battery | 4,300mAh | 4,300mAh |
| Wired charging | 25W | 25W |
| Software at launch | Android 16, One UI 8 | Android 17 |
| India starting price | ₹1,09,999 (2025 launch) | ₹1,24,999 |
With the same battery, same charging and same camera hardware, there is very little a Flip 7 owner gains for the extra money. Unless your Flip 7 is damaged, has a worn-out battery or a failing hinge, keeping it for another year is the sensible choice. The upgrade makes much more sense if you are on a Flip 6 or older, where you are skipping two generations of chip, camera and software improvements at once.
Not sure if you should keep or sell? Get a no-obligation price first. Look up your exact foldable on ReUz and see an instant quote in under a minute, then decide with real numbers rather than guesses. ReUz also has a price promise of up to 10% more than other buyers.
How much is your old foldable worth right now?
Foldables lose value faster than slab phones in the first year, mainly because buyers worry about hinge wear and inner-screen damage. That is exactly why condition matters so much more on a Fold or Flip than on a regular phone. Here are the indicative buyback prices listed on ReUz sell pages at the time of writing, for devices in good working condition. The final price is always confirmed after a short inspection at your doorstep.
| Phone | Variant | Indicative ReUz price (good condition) |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 | 12GB / 256GB | ₹92,280 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 | 12GB / 512GB | ₹96,000 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 | 16GB / 1TB | ₹1,01,000 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 7 | 256GB | ₹56,000 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 7 | 512GB | ₹61,000 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 6 | 256GB / 512GB / 1TB | ₹79,000 / ₹81,000 / ₹85,000 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 6 | 256GB / 512GB | ₹43,500 / ₹46,500 |
Prices move with the market, so treat these as a starting point and check your instant quote for today's number. If you are on an older foldable, you can also sell your Galaxy Z Fold 6 or sell your Galaxy Z Flip 6 the same way.
The real cost of upgrading: a worked example
Let us put the numbers together for a Fold 7 owner with the 12GB + 256GB model in good condition who wants the Fold 8 Ultra 12GB + 256GB.
- Fold 8 Ultra launch price: ₹1,99,999.
- Indicative ReUz price for a good-condition Fold 7 12GB + 256GB: ₹92,280.
- Net cost of the upgrade before any bank offer: about ₹1,07,719.
- If a bank instant discount similar to the ₹9,000 launch offer is running when you buy, the net cost drops to roughly ₹98,719.
For a Flip 7 owner moving to the Flip 8 12GB + 256GB, the maths looks like this: ₹1,24,999 minus an indicative ₹56,000 for a good Flip 7 256GB leaves a net cost of about ₹68,999 before bank offers. That is a lot of money for a phone with the same battery, display sizes and cameras, which is why we suggest most Flip 7 owners hold on.
Run the same calculation with your own variant and condition. The key point is that the money you get for your old phone is the single biggest lever you control in the whole upgrade.
Exchange offer vs selling your foldable separately
Samsung, Amazon and Flipkart all run exchange or upgrade bonus offers on new foldables, and they look convenient. Before you accept one, understand how they work.
- The exchange value is decided late. Online exchange values are usually confirmed only when the delivery person inspects your old phone. Any scratch on the inner screen, a visible crease issue or a slightly loose hinge can reduce the value on the spot, and by then you have already paid for the new phone.
- Bonuses are often tied to specific cards or models. An "upgrade bonus" headline figure may apply only to certain old models or only when paired with a particular bank card. Read the conditions carefully.
- You cannot always combine everything. Some offers make you choose between a bank discount and an exchange bonus. Selling separately lets you take the best bank offer on the new phone and still get full value for the old one.
- You give the phone away before you are ready. With an exchange, the old phone leaves with the delivery person. If you sell separately, you can set up the new phone first, transfer everything with Smart Switch, and only then hand over the old one.
A simple rule: get an exchange quote and a direct-sale quote on the same day for the same condition. If the direct sale is higher, sell separately and use the bank offer on the new phone. If the exchange is higher after including every condition, take it. Either way, you only know by comparing.
Who should upgrade, and who should wait
Upgrade from Fold 7 to Fold 8 Ultra if
- Your Fold 7 regularly runs low on battery before the end of the day, or you hate waiting for 25W charging.
- You shoot a lot of wide-angle photos or video and the fixed-focus 12MP ultra-wide has let you down.
- You use the inner screen outdoors and want a brighter, less reflective panel with a less visible crease.
- Your Fold 7 has any damage such as a scratched inner screen, a dead pixel line or a stiff hinge, because its resale value will only fall further from here.
Keep your Fold 7 if
- Battery life is fine for your usage and you mostly charge overnight.
- Your main photography need is zoom, since the telephoto camera is unchanged.
- You value the same seven-year update promise you already have more than incremental hardware improvements.
Upgrade from Flip 7 to Flip 8 if
- Your Flip 7 is damaged or the battery health has clearly dropped.
- You specifically want the newer Exynos 2600 chip and Android 17 out of the box, and the price difference does not bother you.
Keep your Flip 7 if
- It works well. The Flip 8 has the same battery, display sizes, charging and camera hardware, so the everyday experience is very similar.
If you have a Fold 6, Flip 6 or older
This is where the 2026 models make the strongest case. Moving from a Fold 6 to the Fold 8 Ultra means skipping two generations of chips, cameras and batteries in one go, which feels like a far bigger change than a one-year jump from the Fold 7, and Flip 6 owners similarly gain two years of improvements with the Flip 8. Older foldables also lose value each year as the hinge and inner screen age, so selling sooner usually protects more of your money.
How to prepare your Galaxy foldable before you sell
Foldables need a little more care than regular phones when you sell, because buyers check the hinge and both screens closely. A few minutes of preparation can protect your price and your data.
- Back up everything. Use Samsung Cloud, Google One or Smart Switch to copy photos, chats, contacts and app data. If your new phone is already with you, transfer directly with Smart Switch.
- Remove Samsung and Google accounts. Go to Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts and sign out of your Samsung account and Google account. This removes Find My Mobile and factory reset protection so the next owner is not locked out.
- Remove SIM and microSD cards. Take out the physical SIM tray and delete any eSIM profiles from the phone settings.
- Clean the phone, especially the hinge. Gently wipe the inner screen with a dry microfibre cloth. Never press hard on the inner display or use liquids on it, because the flexible screen protector is soft.
- Do not peel off the factory inner screen protector. On Samsung foldables, it is part of the display. Removing it can damage the screen and reduce your price.
- Collect the box, bill and accessories. The original invoice helps prove ownership and warranty status. A box and cable are nice to have, but the invoice matters more.
- Factory reset at the end. Reset only after your backup is complete and accounts are removed. If you sell to ReUz, the executive verifies the reset in front of you. Our guide on Samsung Maintenance Mode vs factory reset explains when each one makes sense.
Foldable condition checklist buyers use
Knowing what an inspector looks at helps you set realistic expectations and avoid surprises at pickup.
- Inner screen: lifting of the factory protector, bubbles, scratches, dead pixels or lines, and how visible the crease is.
- Cover screen: cracks, deep scratches or touch problems.
- Hinge: smooth opening and closing, holding position half-open (Flex Mode), no grinding sound, and no gap when fully closed.
- Frame and back: dents, bends or cracked glass.
- Functions: both selfie cameras, all rear cameras, fingerprint sensor, speakers, microphones, charging and wireless charging.
- Battery: whether the phone holds a charge normally and does not swell or overheat.
Timing your upgrade during the festive season
October and November are busy months for phone buying in India because of Diwali and the big online sale events. That brings both opportunities and traps.
- New phone prices can dip during sales. Bank offers and limited-time discounts on the Fold 8 series and Flip 8 can reduce the effective price. Compare the final price after every offer, not the headline discount.
- Older-model prices also drop. When retailers cut prices on a model you own, the resale value of used units tends to follow. If you have already decided to upgrade, there is little benefit in waiting with your old phone in a drawer.
- Do not sell before your new phone arrives. Order the new phone, set it up, move your data, and then sell the old one. With doorstep pickup you do not need to plan around a store visit.
- Next year's launch sets the next drop. Samsung has launched new foldables in July in both 2025 and 2026. Every new launch puts downward pressure on the previous models' resale value, so if you are going to sell within the next year, earlier is usually better than later.
Scenarios: what we would do in your place
You have a Fold 7 bought in 2025 and the battery barely lasts a day
This is the clearest upgrade case. The Fold 8 Ultra gives you 600mAh more capacity, faster wired and wireless charging, and a brighter screen in exactly the same body, so your habits and cases stay familiar. Get a quote for your Fold 7, buy the Fold 8 Ultra with the best available bank offer, and sell the Fold 7 once your data has moved.
You have a Fold 7 that works perfectly and you mainly use it for email and reading
Keep it. You already have a seven-year update promise, a flagship chip and the same 8-inch screen size. Revisit the decision next year, when the Fold 9 generation arrives and the telephoto camera may finally change.
You have a Fold 7 but find the tall cover screen hard to type on
The regular Fold 8, with its wider 5.5-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner screen, may suit you better despite having no telephoto camera. Try one in a store before deciding, because the wider shape is a very personal preference.
You have a Flip 7 with a cracked cover screen
Get a repair estimate and a selling quote side by side. A damaged cover screen lowers the resale price, but if the repair costs a large share of the phone's value, selling it as it is and moving to the Flip 8 can make more financial sense.
You have a Fold 5 or Flip 5 and want to go to 2026 hardware
Upgrade, and do not wait for another price drop on your current phone. The jump to the 2026 models in battery, cameras and screen quality is substantial, and older foldables keep losing value as hinges and inner screens age. Older Galaxy Z Fold and Flip models can be sold with the same doorstep process.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra worth it over the Fold 7?
It is worth it if you want better battery life and faster charging, since it moves from 4,400mAh and 25W to 5,000mAh and 45W, and if you want a sharper 50MP autofocus ultra-wide camera and a brighter 3,000-nit inner screen. It is not worth it if you want a thinner or lighter phone, because the size and 215g weight are the same, or if you want better zoom, because the 10MP telephoto is unchanged.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 the successor to the Fold 7?
Not exactly. The Fold 8 Ultra keeps the Fold 7's 8-inch inner and 6.5-inch cover screens and is its direct successor. The regular Fold 8 is a new wider design with a 7.6-inch inner screen, a 5.5-inch cover screen and dual 50MP cameras without a telephoto lens.
Should I upgrade from the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to the Flip 8?
For most people, no. The Flip 8 keeps the same 6.9-inch and 4.1-inch displays, 4,300mAh battery, 25W charging and 50MP plus 12MP cameras, while its starting price is ₹1,24,999. The main gains are the newer Exynos 2600 chip and Android 17 out of the box. Upgrade only if your Flip 7 is damaged or its battery has worn down.
How much can I get for my used Galaxy Z Fold 7 in India?
At the time of writing, ReUz lists indicative prices of ₹92,280 for the 12GB + 256GB model, ₹96,000 for 12GB + 512GB and ₹1,01,000 for 16GB + 1TB in good working condition. The final price depends on the inspection of the screens, hinge and body, so check your instant quote for today's figure.
Is an exchange offer better than selling my foldable separately?
It depends on the day's numbers. Exchange values are confirmed only at delivery and can drop for small marks on the inner screen or hinge, and some bonuses cannot be combined with bank offers. Get a direct-sale quote and an exchange quote for the same condition, compare the final amounts, and choose the higher one.
